How to obtain marriage certificate?
I am a Nepali citizen married to an Indian citizen on 5 May 2017. I now want to apply for Indian citizenship and require a marriage certificate. Please explain the process for obtaining a marriage certificate. Both of us are Hindus, and there is no issue of bigamy or sapinda marriage.
Dear Client, As per your query , A marriage certificate in India is obtained by applying to the local Sub-Registrar or through the state’s online portal. The parties must choose the applicable law, either the Hindu Marriage Act or the Special Marriage Act, submit the required identity, address, age, and marriage-related documents, appear in person with witnesses for verification, pay the prescribed fee, and collect the certificate after processing. I hope this answer was helpful. For further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.
Since both of you are Hindus, your marriage can be registered under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955. You must apply before the Marriage Registrar of the area where marriage occurred or where either spouse resides. Documents include ID proofs, address proof, photos, witnesses, and marriage date proof. The certificate is essential for Indian citizenship application.
