Is prior stay period required in India for British citizen marriage?

I want to marry my girlfriend according to Hindu rituals and then register the marriage under the Special Marriage Act. As a British citizen, is there any specific minimum period for which I must be present in India before the marriage? Please clarify.

If you marry under Hindu rituals first, the marriage can later be registered under the Special Marriage Act (SMA). As a British citizen, you must stay in India for at least 30 days before giving notice under SMA. You will need a valid visa, passport, proof of stay, and a no-objection certificate or marital status affidavit. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
