What steps to take for mutual divorce and dowry issues?

My husband is willing to divorce me mutually if I don’t ask for my stree dhan (dowry) and the dowry cheque he took. If I ask for them, he threatens action under Section 9 and other legal measures. I do not want to go to court. I want a peaceful and mutual divorce. He has already defamed me with his family, and I am a government servant. He and his family forced me to leave, and now they are telling me to either comply with their demands or they won’t divorce me.

Ma’am, it is important to document any threats and coercion in writing. If you wish to avoid court involvement, consider seeking mediation or counseling. As the government servant, it is crucial to handle the matter delicately. A mutual divorce is possible if both parties agree. It is advised to consult an expert lawyer who will assist you with the best course of action. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
