How to handle false bribery threats using WhatsApp chats?
I am a Panchayat Secretary. Recently, a person has been threatening me, claiming that he has screenshots of WhatsApp chats in which I allegedly demanded a bribe. In reality, I have never taken a single rupee from him, and I treated his messages casually in the chat. He is now using those chats to threaten me. I am currently on probation. How should I handle this situation, and what steps should I take if he approaches the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)?
Dear client, Preserve all WhatsApp chats and call records and messages immediately. Do not delete anything. Send a written clarification or legal response to any demand for a bribe, denying the same. You can file a general diary or complaint with senior officials that you are being blackmailed. If he is going to approach ACB, cooperate completely - the absence of money trail or trap evidence will save you. Try to avoid any more informal chats. If you have any query please feel free to contact us.
