Is EWS eligibility affected by land inherited in March 2024?
My father owned less than 5 acres of land for the majority of the financial year 2023–24. In March 2024, he received additional ancestral land, which increased the total to more than 5 acres. Am I eligible to get an EWS certificate for the year 2024–25?
As per EWS guidelines, a family owning more than 5 acres of agricultural land is not eligible for the EWS certificate. Since your father received ancestral land in March 2024, and the total landholding now exceeds 5 acres, you are not eligible for the EWS certificate for 2024–25. Eligibility is based on current ownership, not how long the land was held during the year. For further legal assistance, contact us on our helpline number.
