Is same gotra court marriage legally valid?
Can I marry the daughter of the son of the son of the son of the son of my great-great-grandfather’s uncle, even though we share the same gotra? We are planning a court marriage in Jaipur.

Yes, you can legally marry her in Jaipur. Though you share the same gotra, Indian law does not prohibit such a marriage. Since the relationship is beyond five generations from your common ancestor, it is not within prohibited degrees under Hindu Marriage Act. Court marriage under the Special Marriage Act or Hindu Marriage Act is fully valid. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
