Is the notice of intended marriage sent to the parties’ home address?

How much time does a court marriage take in Kolkata or Chennai? Is any legal notice sent to the home address? If someone does not want the notice to be sent to either party’s home, what options are available, and where should they get married?

Court marriage under the Special Marriage Act generally requires a mandatory notice period before registration, so it is not an instant process. A public notice is displayed at the Marriage Registrar’s office and may be sent to the address mentioned in the application. If parties do not want notice sent to their home, they should provide an address where they have legally resided and plan the marriage accordingly. Privacy-friendly locations can be chosen based on lawful residence. For further legal assistance, contact us on our helpline number.
