What should I do if my family opposes court marriage?

I want to do a court marriage with the person I love, but I am facing a problem with my family. I once mentioned that I would marry for love, and since then, my mother has said that I won't use her family name. My boyfriend is from a different caste, and my family doesn't accept it. Since they won’t agree, I may have to elope and do a court marriage. I am 20 years old, and he is 22. Can I proceed with the court marriage?

In India, court marriages are legal regardless of caste. If your family is opposed to the marriage, you can still marry under the Special Marriage Act without their consent. Since you are 20 and your boyfriend is 22, you are both legally eligible to marry. However, you must be prepared for potential familial resistance.
