Can a sister legally become co-owner in brother’s property?

I am a married woman, and my brother is taking a home loan. I have helped him with a few lakhs of rupees to buy the house. Can I be a co-owner of the property? Do banks allow a sister to be added as a co-owner? Many private banks are not accepting this. I want to know what is legally correct.

If you gave money to your brother without any written agreement that it was for co-ownership, then you cannot become a co-owner without his consent. However, if you gave the money as a loan, you have the legal right to ask for repayment. You can send a legal notice or file a recovery case, if needed.
