What is the best way to sell family property abroad?
I have a query that I would appreciate your clarification on. We have a family property (a one-story building) in Puducherry. The property is in my late father’s name. Now, there are four of us—my mother and three adult children—all living abroad. What is the best way to sell this property? Can we all give Power of Attorney (PoA) from the Indian embassy abroad to transfer the property to my mother’s name before selling it? Or do all four individuals need to appear in person at the same time, or apply to the courts, before transferring the property into my mother’s name in order to sell it? I would appreciate your advice.
To sell the property, all four of you (mother and children) can grant Power of Attorney (PoA) through the Indian Embassy abroad. This will allow the transfer of the property to your mother's name. You do not need to appear in person, but legal advice is recommended for smooth execution. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
