How to recover unpaid money from a borrower?

I gave a person ₹71 lakhs, out of which he has returned only ₹34 lakhs. I transferred ₹16 lakhs via UPI and ₹55 lakhs via cheques. He repaid ₹34 lakhs via UPI but is now refusing to return the remaining amount, giving various excuses.

Dear Client, You have a strong case for recovery because the money trail is well-documented through UPI and cheque transfers, and the borrower has already repaid part of the loan, which amounts to an acknowledgment of debt; the balance of ₹37 lakhs remains due, and the best way forward is first to have a lawyer issue a formal legal notice demanding repayment within a fixed time, and if he still defaults, you can file a civil suit for recovery, while also considering criminal remedies such as a case for cheque dishonor under the Negotiable Instruments Act (if applicable). I hope this answer helps. For any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.

First, send a legal notice asking him to return the balance amount within a prescribed time. If he refuses, you can file a civil recovery suit or even a police complaint for cheating. Since you have UPI and cheque proof, the law is in your favor. A lawyer can assist further. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
