Under Section 20 of the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956, a married adult daughter can be held liable to pay maintenance to her elderly father if he (father) is unable to maintain himself.

A married adult daughter can be legally liable to maintain her elderly father under Section 20 of the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956 (HAMA) but only if the father is unable to maintain himself and has no sufficient means, and the marital family of the daughter is financially stable enough.
