How much alimony and custody rules for Indian divorce?

We are a couple planning to get divorced. We got married in January 2023 and stayed together until December 2023. I am currently working in the Netherlands, and my wife moved to our hometown, Hyderabad, for childbirth. After that, we had differences. Our baby was born in June 2024. We are planning to file for divorce in the coming months and want to finalize child custody, guardianship, and the alimony amount. How much alimony will I need to pay approximately, and for how long? My salary is around €100,000 annually. My spouse is currently not working and plans to study engineering (she holds a diploma).

Since your spouse is not working, she may be entitled to monthly alimony based on your income (around 20–25% typically). You both can mutually decide child custody, courts usually prioritize the child’s well-being. It's best to have a written agreement. Consult a family lawyer who can help you file a proper divorce with fair terms. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
