Under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, a Hindu can marry a Muslim and register the marriage. Both parties must submit a notice of their intention to marry to the marriage registrar. After 30 days, the marriage can be solemnized in the presence of witnesses. This act ensures legal protection regardless of the parties' religion and applies to interfaith marriages.
