Who legally owns wife’s jewelry under Muslim personal law rights?

We got married in 2013 and have three sons. We don’t have any financial issues. I have my own house, car, and a couple of properties that I built after our marriage. At the time of marriage, my wife brought 100 pavans of gold, which her family gave voluntarily without any demand from our side. Seven years after our marriage, they also gave her a piece of land in her name. All the gold is kept in a bank locker which is in a joint account under my wife's and her father's names. I was not informed about this joint account. Now, her father is claiming that he is the guardian of the jewelry, not me. Under Muslim law, who is considered the legal guardian of my wife’s jewelry – me (as her husband) or her father? I believe that my wife has full rights over her own jewelry, and as her husband, I should be recognized as the guardian.

Under Muslim law, your wife fully owns her jewelry, and no one else, not even her father can claim guardianship. Even if the locker is in her and her father’s name, the jewelry belongs to her. You, as her husband, do not own it either, but her father has no right over it. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
