What can I do if school refuses returning original documents?

I am working at a private school in Maharashtra. I joined in December 2024. At the time of joining, the HR informed me that they would take only two original educational documents, but they took seven instead. They promised to return them after six months. Now, in June, the six-month period is over, but when I ask for my documents, they are refusing to return them. What should I do in this situation?

Send a legal notice to the school through a lawyer, asking them to return your original documents immediately. If they still refuse, you can file a complaint with the Labour Commissioner or Education Department. Keeping original certificates without consent is illegal and you have full right to get them back.
