Can I dissociate from caste after converting to Buddhism?
I am a Scheduled Caste Hindu and want to convert to Buddhism. My interest in Buddhism is deeply rooted in its teachings, beliefs, and principles. My desire to convert is purely based on spiritual and philosophical reasons, not caste-based issues. Buddhism doesn't recognize caste, unlike Hinduism, but the government recognizes converted Buddhists as Scheduled Caste. However, I want to ensure that after conversion, I am not associated with the Scheduled Caste or any other caste. Is it possible to dissociate completely from any caste classification after conversion? If yes, what should I do and how?
Sir, as per the law, you are free to convert to any religion as long as your conversion is based on genuine belief and daily religious practice. This decision should not be forced, and you must follow the rituals and principles of the new religion for it to be legally recognized. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
