How can I legally claim my money with interest?

N 2013, a person took ₹15 lakh from me promising to give me a flat. All transactions were done through the bank, but they did not provide any legal documents regarding the flat. Later, in 2017, they ran away. After much trouble, I filed an FIR in 2022. Now, one of them has been arrested and released on bail, while the remaining two have applied for anticipatory bail, which has not yet been granted. They are now willing to repay the ₹15 lakh but claim the money was taken as a loan, not for a flat. If I accept this money, will the case be closed? I want full compensation with interest (15-20%) and a hefty compensation for all the trouble I have faced over the last 13 years. Is this reasonable?

Since no flat documents exist, the court may treat the money as a loan. Do not accept repayment without a lawyer’s advice, as it might close your case. You can ask for the ₹15 lakh plus interest and compensation for your trouble through legal action. A lawyer can help protect your rights.
