How to register foreign marriage in India for visa benefits?

I am an Indian passport holder living in Uganda on a work visa. I married a Malaysian citizen (a Hindu) last year in Malaysia under Malaysian law. I want to register this marriage in India so it's legally valid and so that my spouse can get Indian visa benefits. What is the procedure, and what documents do we need from Malaysia?

To register your foreign marriage in India, apply under the Foreign Marriage Act, 1969 or Special Marriage Act at the Indian embassy or local registrar. Bring your Malaysian marriage certificate (apostilled), spouse’s passport, photos, address proof, and affidavits. The registration process confirms your marriage as legally valid in India and helps with visa benefits. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
