Husband abusive and not supporting — what are my rights?
Hello, My husband and in-laws have been mentally and physically torturing me for over a year. I do all the household work, but they abuse and misbehave with me. My husband knew I used to smoke cigarettes before marriage, and now he threatens to throw me out even though I’ve quit. They don’t allow me to visit my sister, and my husband is physically abusive and uses abusive language. He gives me only ₹2,000 per month for personal expenses despite earning ₹35,000. His father behaves inappropriately with me, and I’m also suffering from depression and a serious health condition. I have no money and need help. What can I do?
You can file a complaint under Section 85 BNS, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, and sexual harassment laws for the father-in-law’s behavior. You can also seek protection, residence rights, maintenance, and medical support through court. Approach the nearest police station or a women’s help cell immediately for assistance.
