Is Arya Samaj marriage valid without Hindu rites performed?

Sir, I am a widower. On 9.5.2015, I entered into a marriage agreement at an Arya Samaj Mandir with a 40-year-old divorced woman, without performing any Hindu rites or rituals. However, her advocate has filed a maintenance and domestic violence complaint in court, stating that the marriage was solemnized with Hindu rites and customs at the Arya Samaj Mandir. Kindly clarify my legal position.

If no Hindu rituals were followed, the Arya Samaj marriage may be considered void. However, if you have been living together for years, the law may treat you as husband and wife, and you may still have legal duties like maintenance. Your long-term cohabitation can establish a valid relationship in the eyes of the law. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
