Lost documents by RTO agent – what legal action possible?

I have moved from Pune to Hyderabad with my two-wheeler. I needed to obtain an NOC from Pune for re-registration of my bike in Hyderabad, so I hired a Pune RTO agent. I sent him my original RC and other documents by courier. He got the NOC done in two months, but did not courier the documents back to me for another month. Eventually, he admitted that all the documents were lost. After that, he blocked my number and stopped responding to my messages. I considered filing an FIR against him, but the problem is that I am currently in Hyderabad and cannot travel to Pune multiple times for this. I have call recordings and WhatsApp message screenshots as evidence to support my case. I can go to Pune to file the FIR in person if it is a one-time requirement. Some of my queries are below. Would I be required to appear in court in Pune (or for any other proceedings) in the future if I file the FIR? Under which sections can I file a case against him if I file the FIR? How long does it usually take for this type of case to conclude?

If you file the FIR in Pune, you may need to appear in court once or twice if your testimony is required, but most proceedings can be managed by a local lawyer. You can file the case under BNS Sections 316 (cheating), 319 (criminal breach of trust), and 336 (forgery, if applicable). Such cases typically take 1–3 years to conclude.
