What can I do if family forces me in marriage?

I am married and having serious conflicts with my husband. He mistreats me, and I want to file for divorce. My parents are forcing me not to file for divorce and are keeping me under house arrest. They are also hitting me, forcing me to return to my husband’s home, and asking me to quit my IT job. This is affecting my career and freedom. What should I do legally?

You have the right to live with dignity and safety. Immediately file a complaint under the Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Section 85 of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 for cruelty. You may also seek protection orders, residence rights, and maintenance. File for divorce through a family court. Police protection and legal aid are available for women facing such abuse or coercion.
