What happens if FIR filed after breakup without proof?

I was in a relationship with a girl for the past two years, but I never promised to marry her. We had physical relations with mutual consent. Later, my marriage was arranged with someone else, and I informed her, which caused a major issue at my home on the wedding day. Two days after my marriage, she filed an FIR against me under BNS Section 69. She was refused for internal medical examination, and there is no evidence such as chats, recordings, or videos to prove that I promised to marry her. In her statement under Section 164 of the Cr.P.C., she clearly stated that she does not wish to proceed with the case. Based on this, I received bail from the High Court, but the case is still ongoing in the lower court. Meanwhile, she recently got married and no longer wants any action in this matter. I would like to know whether I can still be punished in this case and what further actions the court might take against me.

Since the girl clearly said she does not want to continue the case and there is no proof you promised marriage, your chances of punishment are low. You have already got bail. Your lawyer can ask the court to quash the FIR and close the case, especially since she’s now married and not pursuing it. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
