What is the process for registering a workers' union?
Sir, we are working at Global Coal and Mining Pvt. Ltd. under MCL IB Valley Coal Washery 10 MTPA plant, Jharsuguda, Odisha. Many problems are being faced by all the workers, so we have decided to create a union for all workers. What is the process for union registration?
To register a trade union under Indian law, you must submit an application to the Registrar of Trade Unions under the Trade Unions Act, 1926, with at least 10% or 100 workers (whichever is less, minimum 7) as members, along with the union’s constitution, prescribed fee, and other required documents.
So you should gather atleast seven member , draft a set of union rule , elect a leader among you who shall stand on behalf of all of you , and submit an application of registration and annex the rules regarding the union , to the registered trade union in your area.
Sir, to form a union, first, gather support from at least 10% of the workers, create a constitution, and elect office bearers. Then, submit an application to the Registrar of Trade Unions along with the required documents. Once registered, the union gets legal recognition and can represent workers in negotiations and disputes as per labor laws. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
