Will my mother’s name mismatch affect jobs, passport, or visa?
I am really stressed. What should I do? Will I never be able to get a job or clear document verification because of this? On my SSC, HSC, and Leaving Certificate, only my mother’s first name (“Sunita”) is mentioned, as most schools in Maharashtra record only the mother’s first name. However, on my degree marksheets and degree certificate, I mistakenly mentioned my mother’s full name (“Sunita Ramesh Pawar”) instead of only her first name. Her full name is also mentioned on my passport. Because of this difference, I am confused about what I should do. It has already been 3 years since I graduated, so correction may not be possible. Will this create any problem in government or private jobs, and while reissuing my passport or applying for a visa? What is the solution?
This type of difference usually does not automatically disqualify you from government or private jobs if the identity is genuine and consistent. Since “Sunita” and “Sunita Ramesh Pawar” refer to the same person, you should keep a notarized affidavit / declaration stating that both names belong to your mother. If required, get a Gazette publication and supporting documents like your mother’s ID. During document verification, submit the affidavit and explanation. For passport reissue or visa, this can usually be clarified with supporting documents under the Passports Act, 1967 and the applicable passport documentation rules.
