What legal action can be taken for violation of religious sentiments?

I am seeking legal advice regarding a distressing incident that occurred during my visit to Maison PVR at Jio World Drive, BKC, Mumbai, on January 17, 2025. My friend and I had booked two tickets for the 3:50 PM showing of "Emergency" and ordered vegetarian dum biryani. To our shock, we were served non-vegetarian dum biryani, which we unknowingly consumed due to the darkness in the theater. As a Jain, eating non-vegetarian food goes against my religious beliefs, and this experience has left us devastated and deeply hurt. We reported this to PVR, but the compensation offered—ten movie tickets with food—does not address our grievances. We are now requesting monetary compensation, as we feel our religious sentiments were violated. I would appreciate any guidance you can provide on taking further action in this matter.

Your situation involves a serious case of negligence and a violation of consumer rights, particularly concerning religious sentiments. The wrongful serving amounts to deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and you have the right to seek compensation for mental agony, distress, and violation of religious beliefs. You can take legal action by sending a formal legal notice demanding appropriate monetary compensation. If they fail to respond satisfactorily, you may file a complaint before the Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (Consumer Court) for damages, including emotional trauma and negligence. Additionally, if you believe the act was deliberate or reckless. For further assistance, contact your lawyer.

You can send a legal notice to PVR demanding monetary compensation for violating your religious sentiments and can file a complaint with the Consumer Forum under the Consumer Protection Act for deficient service. Include emotional distress claims and provide evidence of your religious beliefs. If needed, consult a lawyer for further legal action.
