What legal action can I take for harassment?

My ex-husband harasses me by constantly calling me, interfering in my family matters, contacting my friends, speaking badly about me, and also threatening me.

Dear Client, First of all, please document everything- calls/texts/recordings, etc. Please block his number from all places so that he cannot contact you. Also, ask your relatives and friends not to engage with him. There are various courses available for you to take. The Domestic Violence Act, 2005, prohibits harassment after divorce as well. If the harassment involves emotional violence or any abuse, you may file for a protection order. It will legally forbid him from contacting or harassing you or your relatives. Section 356 of the BNS criminalizes defamation. This occurs when a person makes or publishes any information about you to a third party, intending to harm your reputation. I hope this answer helps you. For any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you.

Harassment by repeated calls, threats, and defamation is a legal offence. You can file a police complaint for stalking, criminal intimidation, and insulting modesty. You may also seek a restraining/protection order under the Domestic Violence Act. Keep call records and messages as evidence to strengthen your case.  For further legal assistance, contact us on our helpline number.
