Is Power of Attorney required after name change process?

My name in the property registry is different from the one on my other IDs. To rectify this, I prepared an affidavit and published the name change in a newspaper. A Gazette Notification is currently under process. I have been told that a Power of Attorney (PoA) is necessary due to the name change. My question is: Since the name change has been published in the newspaper and the Gazette process is underway, is the PoA really necessary? If yes, then which name should be mentioned in the PoA — the old one or the new one?

If you have already done an affidavit, newspaper ad, and are getting the Gazette notification, Power of Attorney is not usually required unless someone else is handling your property. If PoA is needed, use your new name, and mention “formerly known as [old name]” to avoid confusion. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
