Should I take civil or criminal action for non-repayment?

I liked someone who was in trouble and needed money, so I lent him some. He exercised undue influence over me. He gave me a date for repayment but failed to repay. When I threatened to sue him, he began blackmailing me, saying he would disclose private chats to my father. I filed a police complaint, but they couldn't help with recovering the money and could only take action for the criminal offense. I then made a debt agreement with him, but he is not acting accordingly. Should I take civil or criminal action against him?

If he failed to repay the loan, you can file a civil suit to recover the money, as the debt agreement exists. For blackmail or threats, you can pursue criminal action for extortion. You may combine both actions for recovery and to address criminal behavior. For further legal assistance contact us on our helpline number.
